Social
Media and YOU
The internet. It’s
gone from being this thing that freaked my mom out to her favorite invention
ever. It’s morphed from AOL chatrooms and instant messenger into well,
everything. There isn’t much that’s not connected to the internet these days. From
your smartphone to your smart tv, and quite possibly even your smart home. And
just in case you have to leave your home for whatever reason, trains, planes, and automobiles facilitate this connection too. Human beings designed these things
to perform this way so that we can stay connected with one another no matter
the time or place. Social media is a large part of this phenomenon. Heck, it
might even be the major part. Let’s face it, more people are scrolling social
feeds than completing work while aboard a plane. And can you blame them? Each
social media site offers a wide variety of benefits to its userbase.

Tik Tok, for instance, is great for
casual users who want to engage on a surface level. Tik Tok allows users to
scroll through feeds and simply double-tap the screen to like, or heart, a short
video. Users can also leave comments but sharing a post from someone you’re
following is a bit more complicated than it is on platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
Twitter is great for networking and finding all-around funny content. Twitter
also allows users to scroll through a curated feed, but here you’ll find many
more text-heavy posts. Whether they are humorous or straightlaced, the posts
that impart some kind of knowledge tend to do the best. According to Sprout
Social, however, if you’re a
brand looking to drive engagement, no one does it better than Instagram.
The key thing to remember when operating on these social
media platforms is it’s all for fun and not a competition. It is easy to get
caught up in a keeping-up-with-the-Pewdiepieses mentality, but there is no such
thing as a right or a wrong number of followers. If your goal is to create
content for an audience, then that audience should consist first and foremost
of yourself. Anyone who joins after that is just a bonus.
